What is the Atlanta Roller Derby Academy?

The ARD Academy, formally known as Rec League, is a program designed to teach people all the aspects of roller derby: skating, officiating, announcing, and jeerleading (derby’s version of cheerleading!) Anyone can join any - or all! - of the program tracks. Skating is not required to learn about officiating, announcing, or jeerleading. The Academy is designed to let anyone find their place in the derby world!

There are 4 different tracks, join as many as you’d like:

  • Skating: Learn to skate to either play or officiate roller derby

  • Officiating: Learn all the rules and how to enforce them during gameplay

  • Jeerleading: Learn how to engage the crowd with our version of cheerleading

  • Announcing: Learn how to call the action in front of a crowd on a mic

How do I join?

  1. Click on the icons below for the track(s) you are interested in to learn more and view frequently asked questions.

  2. Fill out the intake form. Someone will then reach out to you and let you know what the next steps are based on the track(s) you select.
