All good things must come to an end, so the 2017 home team roller derby season promises to screech to a hard-hitting halt. The Championship game is yours to watch on August 19th– and this is where you wanna check in before the pearly gates.
Bout 1: Toxic Shocks vs. Sake Tuyas
If you’re preparing for the end, consider a dash of panache. In the roller derby world, panache particularly means glitter, so get ready for the clash of silver on gold for the beginning of the end of 2017. The golden Sakes last played the silver Shocks in the first game of the season, where the Shocks sizzled their way into a 184-166 win. This game will outshine the past, though, determining which team falls into 3rd and 4th place by season’s end. The grudge is strong and the hip checks are sure to be stronger, so come on down to watch two disgruntled teams express their aggression.
Bout 2: Apocalypstix v. Denim Demons
Humanity’s last stand: a flood in the thunderdome, with a wave of Demons crashing in to challenge Atlanta’s reigning champions- the Stix. The last time these two teams played each other was way back in January, and the Stix took the win 179-130. Now, both teams have grown in the past 5 months, gaining experience and swelling the ranks with new skaters. The 2017 championships are when we see which team has risen above the rest this season: pushing hardest, juking fastest, and sweating smelliest. Make sure to check out this end of times- Are you ready to be raptured?
The end cometh to Yaarab Shrine in Midtown on August 19th, doors open at 4: Bout one is at 5, bout two is at 7:30. Tickets are available online or at the door, but this game historically sells out, so be sure to buy soon! To assist in meeting your maker, we recommend you BYOB (but no glass). And bring some cash for earthly delights like food trucks and vendors.
